Karlie King will be showing works from her Allegorical Desktops series at void. Based on old wooden desktops that were collected from Mervin School House previous to its demolition, the impetus of each piece is an original carving on the desk. From these carvings Karlie further explores educational topics, subjects, and classes visually, using image transfers and printmaking techniques. Since the intended meanings of the original carvings cannot be know, the desktops are like riddles. They are touchstones in a web of relations and thought. Plus, they are allegories of past renderings and educational subject matter.
